HomeSTYLENEWSNatasha Khan Collaborates with YMC Style Quotidien July 14, 2014 Natasha Khan, also known as the musical act Bat for Lashes, has collaborated with British label You Must Create (YMC) to design a limited edition capsule collection for the SS14 season. The unisex street wear collection includes sweatshirts, pants, shoes, caps and a t-shirt in styles that compliment the laid back attitude of the west coast of California. Inspired by the colorful Los Angeles sunsets, Khan created exclusive prints for the collection that come in both black and white and sunset colorways. Khan’s collection also manages to capture the industrial feel of the YMC label, a brand that was launched in 1995 by Fraser Moss and Jimmy Collins. YMC goes against the transitory nature of fleeting fashion trends by offering effortlessly cool clothing that is beautifully tailored and with hidden details. In fact, Moss and Collins were initially inspired by the precision and reliable performance of uniforms, sportswear and military wear. This strict functionality was combined with the timeless appeal of flea market garments, and then mixed with the dark humor of the punk rock phenomenon to create a truly unique label. To this day, YMC remains a small British family-based company that is known for both timeless design and quality. Standing as a beacon against mainstream fashion, even the themes of the brand’s boutiques reflect their rejection of conventionality. The flagship store in Shoreditch is based on an actual mortuary, while the second store has elements of taxidermy, the occult and science inspired by Victorian curios. In her collaboration with YMC, Khan was given the freedom to develop a collection that truly reflects her design aesthetic. As part of the creative process, Khan directed a video that shows her hanging out in LA and wearing pieces from her collection. The film was produced by Neil Krug and features an unreleased song composed by Khan and international artist Beck called “Under the Indigo Moon”. The unreleased song was specially written for the video and marks the second track the musical duo have created together. Khan’s SS14 capsule collection is now available for purchase from YMC’s online boutique and brick and mortar stores.Click here to visit the YMC website.
